9/18/10 BACK IT UP TRAIL RACE—DONATIONS/PLEDGES
9/18/10 BACK IT UP TRAIL RACE Q&A

What is the difference between running/walking road race vs. trail race?
Wooded single track trails are different than running roads.  There is no traffic on the trail, but there is lots of protection from the heat/sun or
cold/rain and wind.  The biggest difference is that the trail is more physically challenging because of the changing terrain and can be more
mentally rewarding, because the experience is much more personal.

What are the average finish times for running/walking?
5k—run 30 min, walk 1 hr                10k—run 1 hr, walk 2 hrs             15k—run 1 hr 30 min, walk 3 hrs

Where is Acorns Resort and Liminal Trail?
15 min from JC, 35 min from Manhattan, 1 mi S of the town of Milford, adjacent to Farnum Creek COE campground.

What is the trail like?
It is a 3.1 mile loop around the perimeter of Acorns Resort--through the woods, ravines, creek beds, open meadows, along the lake in many
areas and even across a beach.  Trail footing ranges from rocky to grassy areas to mostly dirt paths.

Are there water/snack stops during the race?
Yes, there will be water/snacks for racers at the 5K, 10k and finish.

Are IPods, strollers and/or pets allowed?
IPods yes, strollers may be tough—a backpack would be better suited, no pets on trail during races but ok at other times.

Is there a place for spectators?
Yes,—the beach, the storage unit and the Lodge are a few great places (all are accessible by road)

How do I register for the race?
Register on line or show up on race day between 8:30 and 9:30 am (Acorns Resort Office).

Where will my donation/pledges go to?
The United Way of Junction City—Geary County.  You can choose the specific local organizations if you would like to.

What is the fund raising goal for this race?
Goal for 2010 is to raise at least $1000.  Not a bad fund raiser for a 30 min-3 hr race 15 minutes from town.

Who is sponsoring this race and why?
Lake Adventures and Acorns Resort.  Many of us say we want to better ourselves & help our community, but actions can be more difficult.
This is a way for people to do something great for themselves while giving to others--to “Back It Up”.

What kind of assorted prices will there be?
Raffle items will include:  tshirts, 2 nights lodging, free kayak/canoe rentals, etc.

Is this an annual event?
Yes, that is the current plan.  Start training and pledging for 2011!

Are there any other trail races or events throughout the year?
Yes, many events are offered by Lake Adventures, including 12, 25 and 50 mile Adventure Races, Off Road Triathalons, Mountain Bike
Races, Ropes Classes, Kayak/Canoe Trips and Women’s Retreats

How long has the trail been there and can anyone use it?
The trail was built in 2009 by Acorns Resort and Lake Adventures.  Anyone can use the trail free of charge for hiking, running and mountain
biking.  Equestrian & ATV use is not permitted.  You can get a trail map at the Acorns Resort Office.
