| 2009 Race Reviews (outside races) Truman Lake Adventure Race--Warsaw, MO April 2009 I had been so busy with my own events, there's been no time to train for long distances. So when a friend asked me to race this 50 miler, of course I said yes. We put together a 1st time team and threw all our new bikes (thanks to the greatest bike store on Earth,Epic Bike Store in Kansas City) on the disco and headed to Missouri. Can I just say although we didn't have the best finish time, I had the best time! The area was gorgeous and mtn bike trails INTENSE. Added bonus--we got lots of practice changing bike tires! Don't think I would head out for just any race right after a week in Mexico, I knew Kelly's would be great--and was right. Can't wait for next year! Off Road Fixation--you rock! Kodiak Crabfest--Pasagshack Ride and Pillar Mountain Run, Kodiak, Alaska May 2009 This year the 43 mi bike through the most beautiful island in the world started at Pasagshack instead of Chiniak--which meant pavement all the way baby. Got to ride a real road bike for the 1st time and loved the climbs (not the downhills too much). The weather wasn't great--40, raining and blowing 20mph--so no sweat literally. I improved my ride from last year quite a lot thanks to the reckoning I got at Truman (which brought on a killer 1 month bike training program). Thanks to working on bricks, the 10 mile Pillar Mountain Run immediately following the bike was doable, especially since the clouds broke for the only time I was "on island" while running across the top of Pillar. It is so humbling and invigorating to ride/run with the athletes in Kodiak. Crabfest was a little cold, so on off time it was the trails at Monashka and Abercrombie for me. Run, Rock and Roll--Fairbury, NE June 2009! 4 of us wanted to race, but it was a 3 person division--so I opted out to rest for a weekend. Then TeamTorti asked me to join to fill in their 3rd spot, so we all got to race. Really I can't believe we were in Nebraska--South West Oklahoma maybe--but there we were on prime private ground that was truly amazing. Elevation, creeks, rivers, boulders, canyons, trees--I never saw it coming though Jim tried to tell me. The race was extremely well organized, the course was incredible, crazy great support, AND I got to race without being the navigator--whoohoo. Team LA did fantastic with their navigation and speed and our teams were neck and neck most the way. I'm so glad I didn't stay home and rest. Angry Cow Adventures knows how to put on a race, gets incredible racer participation, and has the location to do it. We're taking July off since everyone's on Holiday. |
| Team LA--Who We Are We love the outdoors, pushing limits, the intensity of the moment, sharing positive memories and experiencing new places and perspectives. Our ages range from 16-45. We have diverse professional/educational backgrounds and all have great families that think we are crazy but continue to support us anyway. We are looking for more core members to create even greater dynamics and more race opportunities. Email Charmion if you're interested in coming along for a training day and seeing what it's all about. |
