Forecasts of storms and high winds seem to have kept some people home on race day. But even though the
race crowd was small, they packed A LOT of power in on Liminal Trail. The trail is in it’s full Summer glory now
with plenty of vegetation and cover, so racers weren’t the least bit bothered by high winds or heat. Granted it was
a great day to run, but I was still amazed at the times racers nailed! This race report would have been posted
sooner, but I had to run the 10k for time last night just to see if I could come close to their times. Nope. I can’t
see under 57 min.
Vincent, Michael, Christine and Megan owned the 10k between 49 and 56 minutes and other racers in the field
brought in times that would placed them higher on other races . . . impressive across the board. Running a road
5k or 10k might seem more like stretching than work after facing “Liminal”. I have to applaud Aiden for taking on
the 5k at 11 yrs old. Course if you try to tell people that haven’t been on the trail that you did a 5k, I doubt they
will quite understand what you accomplished Saturday morning—you should be very proud!
So last night when I was running and came up with more ideas to “Back It Up”.
September’s race is going to be the racer’s chance to make a difference. Racer’s entry fees and other pledged
donations on their behalf will all be donated to the non-profit of their choice of several local organizations. The
overall 10K winners will receive matching donations to their choice of organization (up to $150) from Lake
Adventures and Acorns Resort. In the meantime, I’ll get some prizes like dinner for 2 at the Tropics, free night’s
lodging at Acorns, and gift certificates to the Manhattan Running Company to give away.
It occurred to me that more than 75 people will probably sign up, and if each of them donated their entry and
managed to get another $20 in pledges from their friends/family, that would equal about $2250. Add the $150
match for top men’s and women’s 10k times and that is over $2500 that could be donated to local non-profit
organizations! This would back it up alright. Look for more info to follow, including forms for pledges and lists of
local non-profits to be included (if racers have one in mind that’s not on the list, it can probably be added). In the
event that it seems the trail will be too crowded, we’ll run two starts that morning.
September 19th, mark your calendars! Register here
and don’t forget about the August 8th race, there are serious times to defend—the bar is way high!
